This initiative aims to facilitate broader access to suppliers and buyers, making the trade process more efficient and streamlined.
The SDB has also undertaken proactive measures to address the concerns of traditional traders. Through a series of meetings in Mahidharpura, the management has urged traders to transition their operations to the SDB, emphasising the advanced infrastructure and facilities available. These efforts have been met with positive responses, as many traders have assured their participation in the coming months.
Understanding the challenges posed by the global economic slowdown and the traditionalists' hesitance to shift, the SDB has prioritized creating an enabling environment for the diamond industry. With facilities such as a fully operational customs house, safe deposit vaults, six bank branches, a diamond processing unit, and a travel desk, the bourse is well-equipped to support both domestic and international trade. Traders can also benefit from a variety of amenities, including restaurants, cafeterias, and an efficient logistics network.
Some of the leading diamond companies, such as Kiran Gems, Shree Ram Krishna Exports, and HVK International, have already begun utilizing the SDB's infrastructure for global trade. These early adopters highlight the potential of the SDB to transform Surat into a global diamond hub, rivalling traditional centres like Mumbai.
